Get up on a sunny day for an exceptional trip. To visit only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles live together. It’s a place called Everglades National Park in sunny Miami, Florida.
Where the story begins
It’s 8 a.m., we are full of expectations, get in the car, heading to the Everglades. The gate of the national park is open at 9, and we want to be first and enjoy an undisturbed tour. We did it, and there is only our group. We buy tickets (approximately 28$ per adult person). And then set off on a hovercraft cruise through the swamps of this fantastic park. As I mentioned above, Everglades is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles live together.
A few facts…
You will be surprised how many other species you can spot at the park. More than 26 species of snakes, 22 species of birds, 38 species of fish and turtles, more than 150 species of insects. Live in this 3rd largest park in the USA after Death Valley and Yellowstone, which covers an area of 6,100 square kilometers.
Ready to sail
After a short briefing, which awaits us during the cruise on the Everglades, we set out to hunt for experiences. We sail along a beautiful slow-flowing river, which flows in a day, only about 1.6 km, and 80% of the park is grass, which allows flourishing different kinds of life in this area. The mentioned grass can be very dangerous for a person, even if it does not look, it is very sharp and can be easily cut yourself. It does not have a problem to cut through your jeans.
As we continue with sail, we observe beautiful birds, plants, fish, and turtles.
Our goal was to see the alligator in their natural habitat. But unfortunately, sunny weather forced alligators to cool off at the bottom of the river. Where they can spend up to 50 minutes without breathing.
Even though we didn’t see the alligator on the cruise, we are excited and continue in the Everglades program. At 9.45, a parade of alligators and crocodiles on the farm begins. However, we still have time, and we go for a walk in the park.
Meeting the alligator
Each of us wants to bring home a photo of an alligator, and so we walk towards the farm, where behind the fence, we can see alligators during rest. We enthusiastically take photos of alligators and enjoy the surrounding nature. As we walk along the sidewalk next to the river back to our program. We were still taking pictures of the last alligators from behind the fence. And suddenly, the alligator looks at us from the opposite side of the sidewalk. In this situation, our faces turned a little pale, and our heartbeat jumped, but we took the coveted photos of the free alligator, which was a few meters away from us, and we ran slightly (happily alive) to our program.
However, you do not have to worry about anything. Alligators are under the supervision of experienced workers, used to people.
